After the damage done in the Blitz only the ground floor of the fire station remained. An extra story was constructed on the top of this to provide temporary accommodation. The station remained in service until 1983 when it was rebuilt on an adjacent site. On 24th August 1983, the new station A24 Soho was opened.

Joining the London Fire Brigade in the mid- 1960s as a junior Fireman (cadet), and at the tender age of sixteen, Dave Pike was destined to become very much an operational firefighter. Heavily committed to raising money for fire service charities, he rowed himself into The Guinness Book of Records whilst attracting many thousands of pounds through his own and his companions’ endeavours. He retired from the Brigade in 1996. After his People Book Awards nominated autobiography ‘Beyond the Flames’ there followed the award winning and eclectic anthology ‘London’s Firefighters’. His latest book about the London Fire Brigade's Fire- Floats and Fireboats completes his fire service-related trilogy. This last book takes as its focus the history of firefighting on the river Thames. Starting in Roman times and bringing the story right up to the present day, it is a comprehensive survey charting the astonishing evolution of the vessels used to combat fire from the river. The book pays homage to the intrepid crews of these often-unwieldy craft, and vividly recreates some of the most devastating conflagrations the capital has ever seen.
With more than 250 fascinating illustrations, Fire-Floats and Fireboats is certain to appeal to lovers of London and aficionados of history and technology, but will also be enjoyed by a wide range of general readers everywhere: https://masseyshaw.org/shop/ fire-floats-and-fireboats-book-by-david-c-pike/ .
