The WCoFF - Exclusive City Dinner 2012
The third in the highly successful “An evening with Sir Ken Knight” event again proved to be a not to be missed event. The 2012 City Dinner, hosted by Past Master Sir Ken Knight CBE QFSM DL, then Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser, was held at the City HQ of Catlin Insurance Company Ltd on Tuesday 13th November. The dinner was agreed to have been a great success for the Company and provided a good platform to promote its excellent work with the Community Fire Cadet organisation and The Massey Shaw Fire Boat & Marine Vessels Preservation Society.
Honoured Guests Included:
Sir Edward Lister - The Mayor of London‘s Chief of Staff and Deputy Mayor for Planning
James Cleverley - Chairman of the London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority
Ron Dobson - London Fire Brigade Commissioner
Phil Salt - Head of DFRMO (Defence Fire Risk Management Organisation)
Lee Howell - President of CFOA (Chief Fire Officers Association)
With much knowledge and expertise around the tables, discussion was keen and relevant to all those who attended.
Thanks to the generosity of Catlin Group, the leading global specialty property and casualty Insurance and Reinsurers, in providing the superb venue, reception and dinner for over 110 guests; the money raised goes directly to the Charitable Trust Fund of the Worshipful Company of Firefighters. Organisations benefiting from Grants by the Trust were represented and provided an insight about their work and how important our Trustee donations meant to them.
In particular it was very rewarding to hear from some of the Fire Cadets themselves; as to how much getting involved in the Fire Cadet activities had transformed their lives in giving those from socially deprived areas the opportunity to develop skills that will be of real use as they enter employment; including confidence, teamwork, communications skills and discipline.
Another first at the City dinner was an excellent dramatisation of “A Night in the Blitz”, from a young “Fire Runners” view point. This was movingly portrayed by actress Jane Cartwright and was very well received from all who were present.
Functions like these demonstrate the relevance and active involvement of the WCoFF in both The City and fire communities.
