Cambridgeshire FRS - Hot dates to 'Have a Go' this summer

Hot dates to ‘Have a Go’ this summer

Ever considered a career in the fire service? Come along to our 'Have a Go' sessions taking place across Cambridgeshire this summer.

The events encourage women and people from a variety of backgrounds to try their hand at being a firefighter or work in our Combined Fire Control taking 999 calls and mobilising fire engines.

The sessions will take place over the summer, ahead of wholetime firefighter recruitment opening in September.

Those signing up can try out some of the practical activities that firefighters need to be able to do, and some that form part of our selection process, including climbing a ladder and taking part in some of the drills. You’ll also hear about the wider role of a firefighter in preventing and protecting communities from fires and other emergencies. In addition, during the sessions participants can find out more about working in Combined Fire Control, and even have a go at some of the entry assessments, including typing and attention to detail tests.

There will be two ‘Have a Go’ events per day at each location, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with one of them being a women only session. During the sessions you’ll be supported by a team of experienced firefighters and you will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Sessions will take place during the following times:

Dogsthorpe Fire Station - Friday 19 July 2019

8.30am until 12pm (Mixed)

Laura Boucher, recruitment team manager at CFRS, said:

“We’ll be recruiting a number of firefighters over the coming years, starting in September, so this really is a great way for those interested to give it a go, and see if it could be a career for you now or in the future.”

“All of our firefighters really do bring something different to the team and this emphasises why we want to welcome people from a wide range of different backgrounds and experiences.”

To register for a place call 01480 444500 or email recruitment@cambsfire.gov.uk. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
